William Crawley
Dr William Crawley (BA Cantab. D Phil Oxon) is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, at the University of London. He studied History at Trinity College Cambridge and subsequently Modern Indian History at St Antony’s College Oxford. He taught at St Stephens College Delhi University for two years 1964-66. He was a writer Editor and Manager in the BBC World Service from 1970 and Head of the BBC Eastern Service 1986-94. He was Secretary of the Charles Wallace Pakistan Bangladesh and Burma Trusts for 6 years from 2000. He is member of the Editorial Board of Asian Affairs, journal of the Royal Society for Asian Affairs and a frequent book reviewer for the journal. He has been De Carle lecturer at the University of Otago New Zealand. He is author with Dr David Page of Satellites over South Asia; Broadcasting Culture and the Public Interest (Sage New Delhi and London 2001), and editor (with David Page and Kishali Pinto Jayawardena) of Embattled Media: Democracy Governance and Reform in Sri Lanka (Sage New Delhi and London 2012).
