Farzana Shaikh

Dr. Farzana Shaikh is an Associate Fellow of the Asia-Pacific Programme at Chatham House (Royal Institute of International Affairs) in London and a historian of Pakistan's political, social, and cultural trends. She has taught at universities in the UK, Europe, and the United States and held senior research fellowships at the University of Cambridge and the Institutes of Advanced Study in Princeton and Paris. A specialist in religion and politics in Pakistan, she offers regular analyses of Pakistan’s domestic and foreign policies.

Farzana is the author of Community and Consensus in Islam and, most recently, of Making Sense of Pakistan, which was selected by The Guardian newspaper as ‘Essential Reading on Pakistan’. She is working on a new book on the history of the state sponsorship of Sufism in Pakistan. She has testified before the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee and the House of Commons All-Party Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir. She also gave evidence to the International Development Committee of the UK Parliament for its latest inquiry on UK aid to Pakistan, which was published in April 2022.
