Ahmed Jamal studied filmmaking at The London Film School and is a film director and producer. His company First Take Ltd has produced programmes for the BBC, Channel 4, HBO, CNN, ARTE, ZDF, and other international broadcasters.
He has just completed work as a consultant producer on an international feature documentary about Gandhi and his message of non-violence. He recently directed a feature film titled Rahm, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Measure for Measure” set in Lahore, Pakistan which was released in cinemas in the UK, Pakistan, and France, was screened on Channel 4 in December 2019 and is now on C4 Catch up.
His feature documentary ‘The Journalist and the Jihadi: the Murder of Daniel Pearl’ narrated by Christiane Amanpour premiered on HBO and CNN in America to wide critical acclaim in 2008, getting two Emmy nominations and the Indian National Film Award for Best Documentary that year. His other awards include British Film Institute Award for Independent Cinema in 1988 for Retake Film and Video Collective, the first black or Asian workshop to be franchised by the ACTT and Channel 4.
